An enormous Orthodox monastery in the Serbo-Byzantine style, with five magnificent gold-capped domes, isn’t exactly something you’d just stumble upon in the middle of a flat farmland landscape. The monastery, bearing the name of Saint Paraskeva of the Balkans, can play the part of any Orthodox religious complex, from Serbia to Russia. It also evokes the era of the ancient Byzantine Empire, with its awe-inspiring architecture, ornaments, and frescoes, both through its interior and exterior.
